Easy

"Device was easy to set up and use. I have already used it for Smoking ribs, chicken and brisket. Worry free in ensuring temps are on target."

Worth the money

"I own the ThermaQ Blue High Temp Kit for use with a Kamado Joe smoker. I bought the kit because I wanted to calibrate the smokerÃâs behavior under several conditions (amount of charcoal, outside temperature, opening of the airflow, etc. ) using an instrument and not pieces of meat Ãâ I did try it with a brisket and fortunately caught it before it became shoe leather. This is not the first remote thermometer I have owned; the others are not from Thermaworks and now reside in an electronics recycling facility. I chose the Bluetooth version because I read in some other reviews that there was a problem with the Wi-Fi version connections to an iPad not staying connected (it is probably the iPad, not the thermometer). The BT connection to the iPad couldnÃât have been simpler and I am very critical about how to connect via BT in general, having been frustrated by other BT devices. The iPad application is relatively easy to use, but it takes a little poking around to find the curves. This behavior is a very common problem with apps in general Ãâ donÃât try to tell me that something is intuitive since all that means is that the designer thought it was the right was to design the user interface. Once I get confident in my knowledge of the different conditions, I may decide to pair it with my smartphone so I can set alarms to follow me around the house. I checked the system against an analog thermometer in my kitchen oven and it seems to read the same. I know that there is a calibration certificate, but I wanted to make sure. I also wanted to see the curve for the kitchen oven. Overall, I am pleased with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone considering it. Yes, it is expensive, but so is what you are cooking."

Probes Melted 1st Use at 325

"The first time I used this using their ""high-temperature"" probes they both melted about 18"" from the end, roughly where they exit my RecTec RT-700 via a temperature probe hole. (e. g. designed for probes to exit) I have a PID controlled RecTec pellet grill (holds the temperature within a couple of degrees) and have used their probes at much higher temperature cooks countless times without any issues. The ThemoWorks probes melted while smoking my Thanksgiving turkey, I was at 325 degrees and the first probe shot through the roof (500-600 degrees) about 2 hours into the smoke. ThermoWorks states that the probes can not touch your grates, not covered under warranty. Left me in a bad predicament, I have a ThermaQ with no probes, so I had to buy two more and will use their probes only for long/low smokes (225 max). Extremely disappointed as I thought I was buying a quality product from a quality company. Clearly there are much cheaper products available and I thought I was making a smart decision."

Great!

"Works flawlessly, and by viewing graphs I am gaining a deeper understanding of the various cooking methods. When braising, for example, the food temp approaches 212F but never quite gets there. The graph starts out fast but tapers off Roasting, on the other hand, increases the food temperature in more of a straight line vs. time, then shows a stall for larger cuts (which I think is due to evaporation) before continuing linearly. Sous vide is similar to braising, but at a set temperature that can be much lower than 212. Etc. I can now picture these things and more thanks to this excellent product. Kudos to ThermoWorks!"
